The Basics

How do I get started with the app?

New to mindfulness and meditation? Our 'Intro to Mindfulness' and 'Mindfulness Foundations' programs are a great place to start! Once you've signed up you'll find them in the 'Explore' tab under 'Adults'.

Want to understand the app in more detail? Check out this blog on how you can get the most out of Smiling Mind.

How can I change my email address?

Unfortunately, you are not currently able to change your email address once your account has been created. This is something that we hope to have the functionality to do in future but for now you will need to delete your account and start a new one with the correct email address. In order to delete your account, please email support@smilingmind.com.au from the email account you wish to have deleted and we will guide you through this process.

How can I change my password?

Easy! Simply visit this page and follow the prompts.

This only works if you created your account with the email and password fields on sign up. If you used a social media account (Google, Facebook or Twitter) you will need to log back in with these accounts.

How do I get a PIN to unlock programs?

All of our Adult, youth and education programs are free to use, so you won't need a PIN to unlock them.

The only program that requires a PIN is our Workplace Program. This is a digital learning experience that has been specifically designed by organisational psychologist for use in the workplace. It includes a combination of videos, guided meditations and practical activities. You can purchase the program here, alternatively, you can have your Human Resource team reach out to us to further discuss having the Smiling Mind Workplace available at your place of work.

Does the Smiling Mind app integrate with Apple HealthKit?

Unfortunately, it is currently not possible to sync Smiling Mind with your Apple HealthKit. As a not for profit we often don't have the resourcing to immediately deliver new features. However, we would love to have this feature available in future and it is something that we are actively investigating. We will be sure to announce if this ends up eventuating.

How do I choose if a Male or Female voice guides the meditation for me?

As of version 4.0.0 we have added a Female voice option to over 50 meditations in the app. If the option is available you will see a toggle to select which voice is used just before you start a meditation.

How can I turn off the music?

Yes! You can turn the background music on/off during your meditations by pressing the music icon located at the bottom of the meditation screen. From here you can also control the volume of the music and choose to set it up to continue after a meditation is complete or to end with the guided audio track.

How do you use my data?

We take your privacy very seriously and have a number of procedures in place to ensure that all data we collect is protected. This is all set out in our policy here.

We have developed our policies according to the strict privacy laws that govern us in Australia. The data we store about each user is that which is collected during account creation: your first name, last name and email address. All information collected is securely stored and is protected by our privacy policy and terms of use.

Our privacy policy clearly states that we do not disclose any personal information to any third parties without consent. As a non-profit organisation, it is absolutely essential to us that we exist to support our community and as such we would never pass your details on to a third party without your express and written consent.

I'm having trouble

I can't log in

The first step is to ensure you're logging back in using the method you initially signed up with. For example; if you created an account with Google, Facebook or Apple, you will need to sign in via that account, rather than using the username and password fields.

If you signed up by entering your details directly into the Smiling Mind app, double check your email and password is correct. Note: our app is case sensitive, so capital letters are important!

Make sure you have the latest version of the app. You can do this by visiting the Apple App Store or Google Play store on your device and downloading the Smiling Mind Update from there (desktop users do not need to do this step).

If you are still having trouble, please email support@smilingmind.com.au with the version of the app and the device type you are using and we can try to help.

I used to log in with Twitter but I can't see that option anymore

As of version 4.0.0 of our app we no longer support the 'Sign in with Twitter' option. You can choose to create a new account and start a fresh or contact us to have your meditation minutes migrated to another account.

My workplace code is no longer working

Workplace codes are only active for a certain time period. Please check in with your wellness or HR team for the specific end date of your Workplace Program.

I haven't received my Workplace access code

Sometimes these emails can get marked as junk or spam so check the spam folder in your email account.

If it's not there, please double check the email address you used to sign up. For example; if you created your Smiling Mind account through facebook, you will need to check the email address linked to your facebook account.

This is a technical issue on our end – we apologise for the inconvenience! We are currently working on a fix but in the meantime please try again after a few minutes. If you continue to have trouble, shoot us an email at support@smilingmind.com.au and we will lend a hand!

Got a feature request?

I have a recommendation to improve the app

We love receiving feedback from our community! If you have an idea you would like to share please send us an email to support@smilingmind.com.au

Please keep in mind that we are a not for profit providing a free app so we often have more requested features than is possible for us to deliver. We are currently working away on an improvement roadmap as we speak!

Did you know our app is only one part of our focus? Smiling Mind primarily exists to support children and young people to develop skills they need to be mentally healthy and thrive in life, with the long term goal of preventing mental illness and the societal impact of poor mental health.

While there are lots of great ideas we receive for our app, we actually prioritise new features based on helping us achieve our long term vision and goals.

Can you translate your app into another language?

Unfortunately we don't currently have the ability to translate meditations within the app to other languages. However, we do have some meditations developed in specific languages that are already available in our app. You can find these by navigating to "Other Languages" in the app. Available now: Pitjantjatjarra, Ngaanyatjarra and Kriol. We are currently working with communities to develop meditations in the following languages which will be available in 2021: Arabic and Dari.

Does my workplace have to do all the workshops and buy the app?

The program is flexible, so you can pick and choose elements to suit your budget and needs. While you can choose to run one or more workshops or you can choose to just purchase the app, we recommend that you run the workshop series and also subscribe to the app. This will mean that your staff will get a solid understanding of mindfulness and meditation through the workshops, which are supplemented with exercises and meditations on the app. As you know, it is important to ensure staff members start practising the skills they learn to build their mindfulness muscle, and this program is specifically designed to ensure they develop a regular practice. This is the only way to develop a new way of operating and contributing to a cultural shift, where looking after our mental wellbeing is valued and encouraged.
